Coming from MN I know all about this stuff, in fact I think the only people who know more about it are from Canada - the home of the Red Green Show.
So for those of you out of state, or just thinking that it's "duct" - you're not correct.

Monkeywrench thrower over here that grew up with a bunch of my family in HVAC. It's generically called "duct tape" because that's what it was used for. Sealing ducts. Now they have this liquid stuff that they called "pooki" on the job site that you apply with a brush. Duck Tape is a brand of duct tape. I'm from WA so I know almost as much as a MN and Canadian on the subject :)
